How to Compare Different Dildos in Width?

In general, the longer the dildo the thicker it's going to be. This is because most realistic dildos use proportionate dimensions. Measuring width is pretty straight forward. The width is the length across the widest part of the dildo. The chart below shows you a comparison between an average male penis and different dildo width.

How to Measure Yourself for a Dildo?

To measure you will need a vibrator or dildo, or an alternative phallic item that is long and has a smooth surface; it should also be rounded on the end. If using an alternative, clean them before use. You also need a soft tape measure.

If you are aroused, it can enable the vagina to accommodate more, so lie on your back on the bed and stimulate yourself, or allow your partner to excite you. Once aroused, start sliding the phallic object into your vagina.

Once at the furthest point, mark where you are on the object you use. Remove the object and measure how far from the tip to the fingers. This is the maximum length you can cope with.

To measure girth, ask your partner to slide fingers into the vagina until you reach the limit you can comfortably enjoy. When you feel you have reached this point, wrap the tape measure around their finger/s to find the circumference/girth your vagina can accommodate.

Main Dildo Measurement and Sizes

Generally speaking, there are four measurements you should be familiar with when it comes to dildos:

• Length: The vertical length of the toy from the two ends. We sometimes refer to this as total length.
• Insertable Length: The length of the toy designed to be safely inserted.
• Width (or diameter): The distance between the two sides of the toy.
• Girth (or circumference): The circumference of the toy.

Sizing for Male Dildos

It’s very different measuring for an anal dildo than a regular one. To get this right, it’s best to ask a partner to help so you can relax. The whole point of anal is to feel the stretching more than length. However, the anal dildos do come with girth. Anal dildos come in widths (diameter) a little under 1 inch and go up to a range of almost 2 inches in width. The length range from around 5 inches up to 12 inches (or above).

The way to measure your anus elasticity is to get on all fours, spread your legs and relax. Your partner should lube your anus well, and also their fingers. Sizing for Double Ended Dildos

Double dildos come in two types, double ended and dildos for double penetration. DP (deep penetration) double dildos range in sizes of around 6 inches in length the vagina, and the anus section comes in at around 5 inches.

The circumference of the vaginal shaft ranges from 4 inches to approximately 6 inches, while the anus side is usually from 3 inches to around 4 inches. Double ended dildos range in circumference from approximately 4 inches to around 6 inches. We suggest only experienced users try double-ended dildos as the experience can be overwhelming.

Sizing for Glass Dildos

Glass dildos are a solid and unyielding, so making sure that you size yourself correctly can make all the difference. These come in a range of circumference sizes that begin around 2 to 3 inches and go up to between 6 and 7 inches. The models vary from a little under 5 inches upward to between 9 to 12 inches. We must note that glass is a great option for temperature play, but because of the nature of the material, even using a smaller dildo may feel like you are using a big one.

Sizing for Large Dildos

Big and large dildos are made to stretch, so taking a width measurement of your vagina is a starting point. To measure yourself, follow the instructions for measuring for a dildo above to find out the size you can comfortably accommodate. Measuring the vagina will give you a measurement that is the smallest you can choose. We suggest you get a thinner dildo initially, and after you get good experience, you can consider using a larger dildo.

Large dildos have a starting circumference of between 4 and 5 inches and can go up to over a 10-inch circumference. The insertable length can begin at around 5 inches and can go the range of over 12 inches or more.

Sizing for Realistic Dildos

A realistic skin dildo is soft to deliver that required realistic feel. These can be purchased a little larger as they will mold to the body. To find the ideal size, you need to find the circumference that your vagina will match.

To measure yourself, follow the instructions for regular dildos to find out the size you can comfortably accommodate. The realistic dildos range from small circumferences of between 2 and 3 inches all the way to a more extensive range of 8 inches and above.

Sizing for Squirting Dildos

Ejaculating dildos often come with testicles or another squirting mechanism, so the overall length is larger than the shaft that can be inserted. You can measure for a squirting dildo like you would for a realisitc dildo, as there is not much difference in size, except for the squirting feature.

The length of squirting dildos that can be inserted ranges from around 5 inches up to roughly 8 inches, and the circumference can range from 4 to 5 inches up to approximately 7 inches.

Sizing for Silicone Dildos

Silicone dildos come in all manner of designs, so it is good to know the extent of what size your vagina can comfortably accommodate. Because there are lots of designs, it’s better to know the depth of the vagina as well as the width of silicone dildo it can accommodate.

You can find silicone dildos with circumferences from 2 inches and ranging up to 7 inches. For the length, they will range from under 5 inches all the way to about 8 inches.

Sizing for Small Dildos

Not everyone can take larger sized dildos, and some people enjoy the stimulation from smaller sized dildos. So it’s worth knowing the sizes that will feel good in the vagina. Most small dildos only have an insertable length to around 5 or 6 inches, over this, they are not classed as small. To measure your vagina for these, it can be done your own, as length isn't an issue with small dildos.

Sizing for Strapless Strap-ons

Sizing for strapless dildos is different from other dildo types. Because of their design, lengths are limited to around 7 inches, any more than this, it would be difficult to hold them in place. The wearer needs to know the size of the bulb that will fit into her vagina. This is the widest part which sits on a thinner neck.

The wearer needs to be sufficiently stimulated before the partner slides fingers in to the point where the vagina shows resistance. This will be the widest point the bulb stretches the vagina, so measure it with the measuring tape around the widest part to give you the circumference. The circumference of strapless dildos ranges from just under 4 inches to around 5.5 inches.

Sizing for Suction Cup Dildos

Suction cup dildos are designed for hands-free stimulation, so you do need to know the size you can take because you won’t be feeling resistance through your fingers. Measue the length you can comfortably take in your vagina, and don't be zealous as you may harm yourself when sinking down on a suction cup dildo.

These can range from short and thin with an insertable length of 5 to 6 inches, and go all the way to over 10 inches. The circumference of these will be from 2 to 3 inches for the shorter suction cup dildos and will hit a top range of between 10 to 13 inches for the length.

Sizing for Vibrating Dildos

Vibrating dildos are fun and exciting, as on top of having a realisitc shape, these have built-in vibrations that you can usually control via buttons, or wired or wireless remote controllers. These come in very similar sizes to regular dildos, and often have realistic shape, so you can use the same measurements as you would any realistic dildo.

Vibrating dildos start with a circumference around 4 to 5 inches, and these range up to 6 to 7 inches and come with an insertable length of around 8 inches. The shorter lengths are around 5 inches.
