Why Use a Double-Sided Dildo
Using a double-sided dildo is pleasurable for every person, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, or even relationship status. With a partner, you can both experience penetration simultaneously, which applies to both straight and LGBTQ couples. For women, double-sided dildos are convenient to use as a strapless strap-on as well. One side of the dildo can go in one of the holes (vagina or anus), while the other side is being used to penetrate the partner.
Double-ended dildos are also a great option for when you want to play solo with double penetration, something that is not possible with a regular, one-sided dildo. One side can go in your vagina and the other side into your anus, making them great for those times when both your holes need some action. Couples have often reported that experiencing simultaneous penetration has enhanced their sex life and made them feel closer to one another.
How to Use a Double Dildo
The way you use a double-sided dildo depends on the type of dildo you have. In general, the first thing you need with a double-ended dildo, or any dildo for that matter, is a good lubricant. You need to lube down both ends of the dildo all the way to the middle if you intend on using both ends, of course. Using a condom is also an option and, in fact, recommended for health reasons. From then on, the process of using a double-sided dildo depends on the situation.
- When you’re using it solo for double penetration, start by laying on your back. Place a cushion under your hips, and slowly insert the dildo in your anus. When it’s inside your anus comfortably, form a bend towards you to control it easier and insert it into your vagina. You can continue in this pose or stand up and squat over the dildo as you guide it deeper inside you. The same process can be applied when using it for either anal or vaginal penetration. You simply wouldn’t insert the other end into a hole.
- If you’re using the dildo with a partner, stand in a doggy pose facing away from one another. Every person inserts one side of the dildo, which can be vagina to vagina, vagina to anus, or anus to anus. Once both sides are inserted, start rocking against each other in coordination to get the penetration going.
- For lesbian couples, insert the dildo in both vaginas and grind against the dildo simultaneously. You can use the double-ended dildo in either a crab pose or do it with the previous method in the doggy style.
Types of Double Ended Dildos
There are various double-ended dildos in terms of lengths, shapes, and textures. Some can be smooth and shorter, while others can be rigid and long, and then there is everything in between that. However, in general, there are several classifications of double-ended dildos we can go over: double penetration dildos, double-sided dildos, Non-flexible straight double-ended dildos, and strap-free dildos.
-
Double penetration dildo - This model is designed to give women the experience of being penetrated both vaginally and anally at the same time. They usually have two ends connected to a single shaft: one thinner end for anal penetration and a thicker end for vaginal penetration.
-
Double-sided dildo - Mostly used in lesbian relationships, double-sided dildos are similar to double penetration dildos. Instead of one side being thinner for anal use, both sides have the same size of dildo.
-
Non-flexible straight double-ended dildo - Coming with a sturdier design and straight shape, non-flexible dildos are one of the easiest to use for heterosexual couples as they are less likely to slip out during use.
-
Strapless dildo - This is a newer design used for pegging or female penetration. One side is a dildo, while the other side has an egg-shaped bulb inserted in the vagina or anus of the wearer.
Cleaning & Maintaining Tips
If you use a silicone dildo, the most common material for double dildos due to its flexibility, you can simply put it in boiling water to disinfect it. Once the toy has been boiling for around five to ten minutes, take it out and dry with a towel or let it air dry. You can also use this process to clean other non-porous materials like stainless steel and glass. Putting them in the dishwasher is also an option for submergible toys.
On the other hand, if your double dildo is made from porous materials, it can gather bacteria on the surface, so it would need more cleaning. Hard plastic, thermoplastic elastomer (or TPR), elastomer, or jelly rubber are very porous, so they can still contain bacteria even after cleaning. So, if you have a dildo made from these materials or want to swap things out with your partner during sex, it’s best to use condoms on both sides. It not only reduces the risk of STI transmission but makes cleaning the double-ended dildo easier and adds lubrication.
You can clean other toys with warm water and soap mixture or a sex toy cleaner, but don’t rub them roughly to avoid damaging the material.
If the dildo feels sticky after being cleaned, spray some renewal powder to make its surface clean and smooth. In terms of storing it, it’s best to keep it in a bag or case if it comes with one. If not, put the toy in a dark, cool, and dry area but lay it flat, so it doesn’t lose its shape or tear in the bending spots.
Best Lube for Double Dildos
In general, water-based lube is always the best lube option for insertable toys. It has a similar consistency to body fluids, so it will feel the most comfortable for any penetration. However, it tends to dry out fast, so if you want to use the double sided dildo for an extended session, another type of lube would be a better option.
Another good option is using a silicone-based lubricant, but keep in mind that you shouldn’t pair it with silicone toys. The rubbing of silicone against silicone will damage the surface of the dildo and potentially rip it. Oil-based lube is also an option, but it can break down latex and condoms, so if you’re using condoms, it won’t be a good fit.
Best Positions
When using a double-ended dildo, the best position is for both partners to stand on all fours and face away from one another. This allows both sides to control the movement, speed, and depth of the penetration.
If both females use the dildo, the classic crab pose will do as well since you can grind against the dildo in tandem. You can also try having one partner standing on all fours while the other partner is behind him/her and propped up by a wedge or furniture piece.
If you’re going solo for double penetration, laying on your back in missionary pose is best to start things off and then, as you insert both ends, stand up and either squat on the dildo or use your hands to guide it. Usually, stand-up positions are not the best for couple use, as gravity will do its job, and the standing partner’s side will likely fall off.
